Gotcha Day
Every one be sure to say an extra prayer of thanks for God helping us to figure out technology today. haha Poor Mark stayed up for hours trying to get pics to post. They were all just too large but once we figured out that was the problem we got it working.
WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN? Besides the days that I gave birth to Amber and Joey...yesterday had to be the best day of my life. Annabel is everything and more that we have been dreaming of and praying for. These desciribe our day yesterday:
She is the biggest cuddle bug I have ever met.
She has a very soft gentle spirit.
She eats about anything you give her
SHE LOVES BATHS!!! That was when she really came out of her shell.
You lay her down and she goes to sleep.
She loves riding in a shopping cart (it was her first time I am sure)
She loves to feel Marks scruf from not shaving.
She wont let mama out of her sight (I am loving that right now)
She is so sweet and such an amazing gift to us.
Even as I sit and type I can't keep from crying because the day could not have gone any better. We traveled with another family yesterday who also got their little girl. On the plane I just sat and the tears flowed as I prayed she would accept us. The closer we got to landing the less and less Mark and I could contain our emotions. We just very quietly sat there and wiped away tears. We were both just feeling so blessed and in a way didn't feel like it was really the day. But rather a day dream. It was kind of like when your husband comes home from deployment after waiting 8 months. But this was so much more emotional then any return from deployment. All I can sum it up to was that God was moving especially strong in our hearts yesterday. He just kept reminding us around every corner how lucky we were and how much he has been in control of this day from the very beginning. We almost missed our flight because the airport changed our gate 2 times in a matter of 15 minutes. You should have seen all four of us running from gate to gate. it was so funny. The Great Wall the day before prepared us for that. Once our driver picked us up we headed straight to the babies. That is why I look so bad. haha No mouse or hairspray that morning(had to turn in bags the night before and both my mouse and hairspray were too big for a carryon.) and also NO SLEEP. I woke up at 1am the day we were to fly out. I realized it was almost time for church to start back home so I just layed in bed and prayed for our day and thought about what she was going to be like. Anyways...enough of that. Can you tell I am tired? I know I am rambling along. We got to the adoption center and walked in. They already had Annabel there with her nannies. They obviously had been preparing her with our photos. She went right to me. She didn't want to stay with me the whole time. We kind of passed her back and forth about between me and Mark and the nanny. But by the time we left the nanny and headed outside she was stuck like glue to me. It took a while to get her to smile. She smiled a little in the mirror but it was bath time that pulled her out of her shell. She absolutely LOVES water. Another plus since we love to go swimming. We just cuddled and cuddled after bath time and had a bottle then it was time to put her down. They say she goes to bed at 7pm so I tried. Now here comes the only part of the day that broke both Mark and My heart. When I layed her in her crib I rubbed her leg. She was on her back. A little scared of a new crib but she did ok since I was there. Then she started in with totally normal yet absolutely heart breaking institutionalized behavior. She began shaking her head back and forth. Kind of like you would if you were on your back and the back of your head itches. But hers didnt itch. It was very obvious she was rocking herself to sleep. I video taped it for when she is older. I cried as i video taped thinking of all the nights she didnt have anyone to rock her to sleep. that was her way of self soothing. And of all the babies still yet to rock them selves to sleep because they dont have a mommy or daddy. It is so heartbreaking. She fell asleep within 2 minutes and has been alseep ever since. That was about 5 hours ago. They say she sleeps through the night. So far so good. Anyways, I am going to try to go back and add some more pics but here are a few to get you started. Thank you so much for following our time here in China. Just so you all know we still cannot read the comments. So if you do comment please also send it to us in an email. I would still love both because I am hoping to be able to save this blog onto a disk for Annabel to have in the future. Kind of like a photo album of her first days with us. Not sure if we can do that yet, but never the less I would love both email so I can read while I am here and the comment for her to have. God bless, We miss you Amber and Joey. You are going to fall so in love with Annabel. Oh about her cleft. her lip looks amazing. The U.S. doctors told us she would probably have a little minor repair done to smooth out scarring. But even for now...I am completely thrilled for her. We are very very pleased. She has a pretty extensive cleft which we knew about already. It doesnt seem to stop her from eating or drinking. We will get the ball rolling for surgery when we get home. And of course she had a fresh shaving of the hair. I think they did it the morning of us coming because she still had little pieces of hair on her neck. But we don't care about that. She is so sweet and beautiful even without hair. haha But in the mean time...Joey I bet you are the only one in the neighborhood who's sister can blow banana out her nose. Great Wall of China and Jade factory
Hello everyone, I don't even know where to begin because our day today was so packed full of adventure it feels like the last 15 hours was actually 2 or 3 days. First of all I will just let you know right off the bat we still can't upload pics. But don't worry. Tomorrow we fly to a new province and if we still are having trouble then I will email my pics to a friend and she will post them for me. So either way I will make certain we get Annabels pics up tomorrow. I know that is what Grandma is waiting for isn't it???? Well one of our stops today was the Jade factory. It was amazing to watch the workers form beautiful pieces of art out of a block of Jade. We had a class on how to determine the quality of a piece of jade. I bought a beautiful bangle that I will wear and pass on to Annabel when she turns 16. We also did some shopping for the kids. But I am not sharing what we bought them. haha After lunch we headed off to the Great Wall of China. I can sum it up in two words...Oh My!!!! We climbed as high as we could in our alloted time frame. I am exhausted tonight because of it. But it was spectacular. The smog made for some not so nice photo opportunities, but it was still an amazing adventure. Both of our meals today were in group settings. It was so much fun getting to know the other families. We all head out at 5:30 am tomorrow to our prospective provinces. We check into our rooms, unpack and then it's off to meet Annabel. I still can't believe it. Before we started all of our adventures today we attended a church service. The visitors (us) were not allowed to attend church with the Chinese. They are allowed to freely worship but we cannot attend the same service. The service was great. You could just feel God's presence there. Mark and I both could not contain the tears. We feel so blessed and overwhelmingly amazed that God has chosen us to raise Annabel. Well I am headed off to pack. Marks bag is still not here so we just went shopping and bought him some new clothes. It's pretty amazing when you can buy t-shirts for $1. The bell boys are coming for our checked luggage tonight so that we dont have to leave any earlier then 5:30am. I can't wait. The next time you hear from me I will reporting on our first day with Annabel. Kids, I just know you are going to love her so much. I can't wait to talk to you both soon. God Bless, Mark and Tamara

We made it to Beijing
Hello everyone, Well after a 2 1/2 shuttle ride, a 2 hour flight to San Francisco and another 12 hours to Beijing WE ARE FINALLY IN CHINA. All in all it was a fantastic day. Since I didn't sleep prior to leaving I slept very well. Mark on the other hand didn't enjoy his 12 hour hop across the ocean as much. Once arriving in beijing we found our driver and headed to our hotel. Opps I forgot that one of our pieces of luggage is missing. So poor Mark will just have to wash and alternate his 2 pairs of undies in the sink until we either get our suitcase delivered to us or make it to a store. I packed most of my clothes in my carry on in case this were to happen. I am counting my blessings right now because there wasn't a whole lot in that bag that we cant do without. So I guess we will be shopping for Mark tomorrow. I feel we are lucky though because another family is missing 4 pieces of luggage. Well once we got to the hotel we really starting noticing how different things are here. We had to insert our key into the wall in order to have any electricity in our room. We seriously thought something was wrong with our room and were headed back down stairs. A man from the US got on the elevator with us and I started up a conversation and he explained how to get the electricity to work. When he got off Mark looked at me like I was crazy (you see I spent my time on the plane meeting and greeting anyone who spoke English which was a minority believe me). He said I never talk to strangers at home but put me in a foreign country and all of a sudden anyone who speaks English becomes my best friend. haha Well we went down stairs to get a bite to eat. It was there that I got my first scolding. You see when we sat down our table was organized very beautifully with our place setting, napkin and chopsticks carefully placed on a stand to keep food from staining the table. Well when we sat down we ever so carefully moved everything aside so that we could place our menu in front of us and just unwind and talk. Apparently that was not a good choice for us to make. One of the waitresses came speeding over to our table, picked up my napkin and placed it on my lap with out saying a word. She also reset the table the way it was when we sat down. Oh my goodness was that a lesson learned. You don't mess with the table settings. They take their service very seriously. It was impressive though. The waitresses (we had 3 of them) kept coming over and refilling our cups with water from our water bottle what seemed like every time I took a sip. Mark order green tea and got this very tall glass of extremely hot water filled with green leaves. it took him a while before he was able to sip it and when he did he got a mouth full of green. It was funny. Anyways, I should get to bed. I do have email access so if anyone needs to email me feel free. At least here I have no problems. We leave first thing Monday morning (your Sunday night) to take a plane over to Annabel. I wil then post pics of her. I know that is what you are all waiting for anyway. Tomorrow is the Great wall of China and the Jade factory so I better get to bed. Kids, we love you and miss you already. Dont forget to feed the animals and be good for Carole. Joey the pics I included are of pickled snakes. I thought you would like that. Yum maybe we will try that for dinner tomorrow. Just kidding. God Bless, Tamara and Mark

We are packed and ready to go!!!!
Wow!!!! what a crazy two days it has been in our household. After running errands for hours upon hours, enlisting the help of great friends to do what I didn't have the time to do and packing and repacking to make sure we didn't exceed our very small weight limit (44 pounds per person) Yikes!!!!.....Well after all that WE ARE PACKED AND READY TO GO. We board the shuttle in 7 hours and probably should go to bed right about now but I am sooooo excited, exhausted, overwhelmed and just plain grateful for all that God has done since yesterday morning. Each and every detail has fallen right into place. It's hard to believe after waiting this long that tomorrow is the day we will be headed out. Only 3 more days and we will have Annabel in our arms. Please pray that she accepts us and that the bonding process starts right away. Well our next post will be from China. We ARE headed to China!!!!!
Oh my goodness. God is sooooo amazing. We bought our plane tickets yesterday for October 25th. I was happy to purchase them but at the same time felt sad because I knew it made our trip on the 25th of Oct final and probably wouldnt change (I was still hoping for a miracle). Anyway, I prayed that if God wanted us to go sooner He would provide a way. Well God always has a plan doesn't He? The phone rang at 7am this morning and it was our adoption agency. They offered us the opportunity to leave this week (2 days from now). Of course we took it. I was nervous at first about all the things I would have to juggle and change around but God took care of it all. As soon as I hung up I started making calls. All of my friends jumped right in to help ease the stress by taking on jobs for me to help us make it happen. Praise God!!!! Another huge blessing was that we had to change airlines completely and were expecting a pretty hefty cancellation fee. They didn't charge us a penny. That was another blessing from God because it would have been $250 per ticket. Counting the baby that would have been $750 just in cancellation charges. So our tickets are purchased, hotels reservations made and we are ready to bring Annabel home. Here is what the next two weeks of our life will look like:
